How We Research
Every guide on LightChores starts with one question: will this product work for the person who is shopping for it? For our garbage disposal guides, that means your sink, your plumbing and how much you put down the drain.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with the sink and the setup
A disposal has to fit your sink opening, your mounting style and your cabinet space. A dishwasher hookup, a power cord or a septic system can each change the pick.
We check the horsepower, the mount type and the size the maker lists. When your sink or cabinet limits the choice, we say what to check first.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at horsepower, grind stages, noise insulation, feed type (continuous or batch), the cord option and the warranty. We also note the maker's guidance for septic systems.
InSinkErator, Moen and Waste King describe their features in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read through what buyers report after using a disposal. We look for patterns, like jams, leaks at the sink flange, loud motors, jammed units that won't reset or parts that wear out early.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A disposal that's great for one kitchen may score lower in a guide written for another.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores.
InSinkErator, Moen and Waste King each sell many disposals with similar names, so we check each model name and code before we write about it. We only link new units.
When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have installed or used every disposal we cover.
Our guides don't replace the maker's install manual. For plumbing and wiring, follow the maker's directions or ask a licensed plumber or electrician.
We don't promise that any disposal will fit every sink or handle every kind of food waste. When a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
